Five reasons you should go to Cusco in the Rainy Season

Infotur, a travel and leisure local news website, gives us 5 good reasons why we should consider going to the highlands during the Peruvian summer.

Contrary to the coast, during summer (December - March), the mountains and the jungle are reached by the rainy season. There are days where the rain won't stop all day, making everything harder to see and do. However there are some good reasons why you should consider booking a trip to Cusco at this time...
  1. Amazing landscapes. With the rain comes the green season. The surroundings of Cusco turn to beautiful green tones. The Sacred Valley for example is in all its glory. Rainbows are frequently seen during this time.
  2. Money saving. Due to the low season everything is cheaper. Finding accommodation and places to eat becomes really easy.
  3. Less tourists. Fewer travelers adventure into Cusco and Machu Picchu during the rainy season. So you will get more chances to enjoy a more private time with the inca ruins.
  4. Gastronomy. During this time of the year the jungle produces different kinds of fruits, like Capuli. Also the mangos, peaches and pares are best at this time.
  5. Trekking. It is never cold. If you are prepared for wet weather you will never be cold. And if you are a nature lover, the trekking will take you through the most beautiful landscapes.
