Strike on trains to Machu Picchu 15th and 16th of November

Guides and locals from Machu Picchu town will block the train rails, accusing Peru Rail of a terrible service on their local trains.

According to David Gayoso GarcĂa, Mayor of Machu Picchu disctrict, there never seems to be tickets for local people who need to move between Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) and Cusco or the Sacred Valley. He also said that in 20 years the company has never invested in improving the local trains.

In response Peru Rail has said that there are 12 daily trains only for local people, but that many times the lack of internet in Aguas Calientes has proven a problem for issuing tickets. In addition they have scheduled a maintenance of the local trains which won't reflect on an increase on the local tickets. And they have USD$ 10 million to invest in new trains for 2017.

Travelers going to Machu Picchu on these dates will have to move their train tickets to later dates or if they want their money back they will need to write to devolucionespasajeros@perurail.com

Both Peru Rail and Inca Rail, has said that they will try to move tourists who have tickets from Aguas Calientes to Cusco or Ollantaytambo (Sacred Valley) but that it depends on the effectiveness of the police to prevent the blockings of the train rails.

Is important to notice that the strike will be for both train companies: Peru Rail and Inca Rail.
